Bullfrog Bay Mitigation Bank

452.53 Acres | Polk County

Project Details

The Bullfrog Bay Mitigation Bank is a 452.53-acre conservation area established to provide compensatory mitigation for wetland impacts located in the Upper Kissimmee River Basin. The Bank consists of mixed wetland hardwoods, hydric pine flatwoods, freshwater marshes, wet prairies, along with upland live oak hammocks and dry prairies. The Bank has been degraded by ditching and draining, cattle grazing, clearing for pasture, exotic and nuisance species invasion, and prolonged fire suppression, resulting in significantly degraded wetland and upland habitats. The restoration of the Bank will consist of backfilling of cattle ponds, leveling of spoil piles, installing ditch blocks, seeding and supplemental planting, exotic and nuisance species eradication, and reintroduction of prescribed fire to restore all of the wetland and upland habitats to their optimal condition.

The Bullfrog Bay Mitigation Bank has freshwater forested and freshwater herbaceous credits available approved by the South Florida Water Management District.
