Old Florida Mitigation Bank

1,093.52 Acres | Pasco County

Project Details

The Old Florida Mitigation Bank is a 1,093.52 acre conservation area established to provide compensatory mitigation for wetland impacts located in the Upper Coastal basin. The Bank consists of cypress domes and strands, freshwater marshes, wet prairies, wet flatwoods and upland pine flatwoods. The Bank had been degraded by ditching and draining, cattle grazing, clearing for pasture and pine plantation, exotic species invasion, and prolonged fire suppression, resulting in significantly degraded wetland habitats. The restoration of the Bank consisted of backfilling ditches, creation of new wetlands, oak thinning, planted pine removal, exotic species eradication, supplemental planting, and reintroduction of prescribed fire to restore all of the wetland and upland buffer habitats to their optimal condition.

The Old Florida Mitigation Bank has palustrine forested and palustrine emergent credits available approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), as well as federally threatened Wood Stork Suitable Foraging Habitat (SFH) credits. The Old Florida Mitigation Bank also has freshwater forested and freshwater herbaceous credits available approved by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD).
