BANKS
Ocklawaha River Mitigation Bank
207.6 Acres | Marion County
Project Details
The Ocklawaha River Mitigation Bank is a 207.6-acre conservation area providing compensatory mitigation for wetland impacts located in the Northern Ocklawaha River Basin. The Bank consists of mixed wetland hardwoods, cypress domes and strands, wet flatwoods, and upland pine flatwoods. The Bank has been degraded by ditching, planted pine plantation, exotic species invasion, and prolonged fire suppression, resulting in significantly degraded wetland habitats. The restoration of the Bank will consist of cessation of silvicultural activities, backfilling ditches, pine tree thinning, exotic species eradication, and reintroduction of prescribed fire to restore all of the wetland and upland buffer habitats to their optimal condition.
The Ocklawaha River Mitigation Bank will have freshwater forested credits available approved the St. John’s River Water Management District (SJRWMD).
